Understanding Type 5 and Type 6 Certification

Type 6 coveralls (EN 13034) defend against light liquid chemical splashes – sulphuric acid, sodium hydroxide, o-xylene, butanol. The fabric repels droplets and prevents skin contact during mixing, spraying, or cleaning tasks. Type 5 suits protect against airborne solid particles: cement dust, wood fibres, pharmaceutical powders, asbestos. Type 5B/6B models pass both tests, giving you dual protection when hazards overlap (common in construction, demolition, and industrial cleaning).

Check the labelling carefully. Type 6-only suits won't stop fine airborne dust. Type 5-only won't handle liquid splashes. Most industrial work needs Type 5B/6B.

Fabric Technology and Breathability

Products in this collection include breathable SMS fabric (spunbond-meltblown-spunbond) and microporous laminate options. SMS fabric at 55gsm offers excellent air permeability – your skin breathes during active tasks, reducing heat stress and sweat buildup. The COOL range uses 65gsm microporous laminated front panels for chemical barrier performance, with breathable SMS back panels for comfort. Both constructions meet anti-static standards (EN 1149-5), essential for explosive atmospheres and ESD-controlled environments.

Heavier fabrics aren't always better. A 65gsm breathable suit you'll wear all shift beats a 95gsm non-breathable model you remove after 20 minutes.

Selecting the Right Model for Your Application

Match the coverall to the hazard and work intensity. For paint spraying and solvent handling, prioritise Type 6 liquid splash protection with good chemical repellency. For construction dust, asbestos surveys, or dry pharmaceutical work, Type 5 particle protection matters most. Demolition, industrial cleaning, and agricultural spraying typically need Type 5B/6B dual certification.

Common mistake: specifying Type 4 (liquid-tight) when Type 6 splash protection is sufficient. Type 4 suits are hotter, less breathable, and cost more. If you're not handling pressurised liquid jets or full immersion hazards, Type 6 does the job with better comfort.

Fit, Sizing and Disposal

Disposable coveralls are single-use garments. Once contaminated, dispose of them according to your site's chemical waste procedures – never reuse. Sizing runs from small to 3XL across most models; check individual product pages for exact chest and height ranges. Elasticated cuffs, ankles, and hoods provide a comfortable seal without restrictive taping, but for higher-risk work (Type 4 or Type 3 environments), you'll need taped seams and possibly external glove/boot integration.

Always pair coveralls with appropriate respiratory protection, gloves, and eye protection. Coveralls alone don't protect airways or hands.
