Fire Retardant Hi Vis

(40 products)

Flame resistant hi vis workwear solves a dual-hazard problem: you're visible to vehicle operators and equipment drivers, and protected from flames, sparks, and electric arc flash. Standard hi vis workwear only fixes half that equation. Worse, most high-visibility garments use polyester fabrics that melt at 260°C—when exposed to flames, that melted material bonds to skin and keeps burning.

Oil and gas operations, petrochemical plants, utilities maintenance, railway work, and electrical substations present exactly this scenario. You need visibility for crane operators and forklift drivers whilst working near ignition sources, hot surfaces, and arc flash risks. For specialised electrical hazard environments, see our arc flash hi vis clothing range, which adds protection against electrical discharge.

Index 1 vs Index 3: The Decision That Matters

EN ISO 14116 measures limited flame spread—how far flame travels across fabric and whether it keeps burning after the ignition source is removed. Index 3 provides the highest protection with a maximum 2-second afterflame time and no hole formation. Index 1 offers basic protection against brief flame contact but must be worn over Index 2 or 3 garments. Your hazard assessment determines which level you need.

Common mistake? Assuming all "flame retardant" clothing performs the same. Index 1 versus Index 3 represents significantly different behaviour when exposed to direct flames.
